Optimal nitrogen removal – better effluent quality and step forward to energy self-sufficiency of Wroclaw Wastewater Treatment Plant

The aim of the project is to explore the practical possibilities and benefits of implementing one of the three methods proposed in the project for the removal of nitrogen from leachate at Wroclaw WWTP, in order to improve the overall efficiency of nitrogen removal.

The aim of the project is to explore the practical possibilities and benefits of implementing one of the three methods proposed in the project for the removal of nitrogen from leachate at Wroclaw WWTP, in order to improve the overall efficiency of nitrogen removal:

a) in the deammonification process,

b) in the partial nitrification process (simultaneous culture of 1st phase nitrificants – AOB) and in the NO2 concentrate production (an agent for combating wastewater putrefaction in the sewer system) in the process of ion exchange and membrane separation,

c) in the process of nitrification (simultaneous culture of 2nd phase nitrificants and AOB) and the production of NO3 concentrate (a/m) in the process of ion exchange and membrane separation.

For this purpose, an extensive study on the a/m methods, as well as a simulation study on the impact of their implementation, will be carried out. The guidelines for possible implementation will be the final result of the project.
